Reno City Councilwoman Jessica Sferrazza clinched a key endorsement in the Democratic primary for lieutenant governor last week.
Culinary Workers Union Local 226 said it is backing Sferrazza because she "looks out for the interests of working families."
That could give northerner Sferrazza an edge in Clark County, the union's base of strength.

April 23, 2010 – Jessica Sferrazza Garners Key Endorsements in Lieutenant Governor’s Race

Reno, NV) Jessica Sferrazza announced today a series of key endorsements in the campaign for Nevada Lieutenant Governor. Sferrazza, a Reno City Councilwoman, has been officially endorsed by the Building and Construction Trades Council of Northern Nevada, the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Las Vegas Local 357, Iron Workers Union Local 118, IBEW Reno Local 401, Operating Engineers Local Union No. 3 and the United Transportation Union.

“Nothing makes me more proud than having the support of Nevada’s working men and women,” Sferrazza said. “We have stood side-by-side on many issues during my time in public service and their vote of confidence has energized my campaign to win the Democratic nomination.”

Sferrazza, a 33-year Nevadan, has also received public endorsements from influential Democrats from across the state, including former Congressman James Bilbray, former Attorney General Frankie Sue Del Papa, Virginia Cain, Evelyn Mount and Assemblywoman Sheila Leslie.

“Jessica has been part of the resurgence in Reno that has provided many jobs for our members,” said Danny Costella, Iron Workers Union Local 118 Business Agent. “She constantly looks out for the interests of local working families and her door is always open when a concern arises.”

Sferrazza, 36, has served on the Reno City Council for nine years, having been elected to the seat three times, most recently in the 2008 election when she garnered 75% of the vote. Throughout her tenure, Sferrazza has been recognized for her accomplishments. She received the Bristlecone Family Resource Center “Jon Benedetti” Award and the NAACP “Community Service” Award for her efforts to enhance our quality of life. She was awarded the “Scenic Hero Award” by Scenic Nevada for controlling the spread of billboards and was named a “Woman of Achievement” in 2004. Sferrazza was also recently elected president of the Nevada League of Cities by her colleagues from across the state.
